The
commission

Original music and sound design for “Invisible”, Andrea Salustri’s choreography for the immaterial, co-produced by La Biennale di Venezia and premiered at Biennale Danza 2026.

Invisible won La Biennale di Venezia’s national call for a new choreography, chosen by Wayne McGregor from 695 applications, and was co-produced by the Biennale with PERPLX, DYNAMO and Fondazione Luzzati – Teatro della Tosse. It premiered on 21 July 2026 at the Tese dei Soppalchi, Arsenale, three years after MATERIA brought Salustri to the festival. The work began in 2023 with a first conceptual residency, where its technology and sound were explored together with its dramaturgy and science.

What if dance were a slit of light?

Invisible looks for dance beyond the human body. Light, water and air become the performers, and the piece works by subtraction, at the edge of what the senses can catch. Fifty-five minutes, without words, in near darkness. In the first 2023 residency, the music was conceived as a generative engine whose parameters followed air quality data from PlanetWatch sensors.
