Happiness as anaesthesia

SOMA gives form to the creatures that artificial happiness leaves behind, and lets sound and rite attempt their awakening.
Named after the drug in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, a State-issued euphoriant that erases suffering in exchange for stability, SOMA is Eric Oder’s new phase after Memory Hole. Where that album looked to Orwell and the rewriting of truth, SOMA looks at its mirror: not censorship but pleasure, not fear but induced contentment as a means of control.
